Welcome to the memorial page for

Elsie Mae (Stewart) Wallace Moore

February 27, 1935 ~ December 29, 2017 (age 82)

Elsie Mae Wallace Moore, 82, of Statesville, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 at the Gordon Hospice House after a period of declining health over the last year.  She was born on February 27, 1935 in Iredell County to the late Ross and Vassie Mae Sigmon Stewart.

Elsie was a graduate of Troutman High School and was first married to Jimmy Edward Wallace, who preceded her in death.  They shared over 43 years of marriage before his passing on October 12, 1998.  She was later married to Douglas V. Moore on April 11, 2002.  They shared over 15 years of marriage before her passing.  She retired from Draymor Manufacturing Company after 26 years as a utility worker.  Elsie was a member of Fern Hill Baptist Church where she took an active role in her church.  She loved her family, reading, traveling, and cooking.

Elsie was known for her genuine love of all people, her sweet spirit, her love for her family and dedication to God and her church.  Heaven gained an angel for sure, we know because she was an angel to her family, here on this earth.

Along with her parents and first husband, Jimmy, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Sonny, Robert, Johnny, and Clinton Stewart, and one sister, Helen Johnson.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Doug; two daughters, Sandie Ellis (Steve) of Statesville and Becky Owens (Dwayne) of Mooresville; four grandchildren, Michael Ellis, Chelsea Ellis, Stacey Abernathy, and Erin Mosher; three great grandchildren, Mary Charles Abernathy, Presley Mosher, and Jack Mosher; a sister, Judy Milam of Houston, TX; and a special niece, Lisa Milam.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Fern Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Jesse Stroud officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will visit with friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00 pm.

Many special thanks to all those who helped take care of her during her illness, Meleia, Britney, her Hospice nurses, and Kendall.  They all became a part of her family and she loved them.  Also to those who were there to help whenever we called.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625
